Weight Loss!

I think the day has come to throw out the UK size 8's and the UK size 10 clothes that are taunting me when I open up the wardrobe!

Well when I say throw out, I actually mean sell as some of them were/are worth a small fortune!
I have a few options! I can exercise and diet like mad to fit back in to them, but can I be bothered to do that? I am exercising a little everyday chasing after Isabelle, doing the housework and walking everywhere, so I am slowly losing a little weight.

I could go to the gym or stay at home and exercise a lot, but to be perfectly honest that time spent doing that could be time with Isabelle. Now she is nearly one it reminds me that time goes so quickly so I don't want to waste any of this time with her!

So I will sort out the clothes in the next day or two bag them up and put an advert in the paper!

Rainy Day Activities for Kids

With spring now in full swing every parent knows that the rainy days are on the way too. Being a parent with children of my own I know there has to be something interesting for kids to do on these days when all they want to do is be outside but because of the rain they can't be out there just yet. Summer is well on its way but until then keeping them busy can be a difficult task for any parent. The best way to keep the kids occupied is by planning activities that keep them active all day long.

Crafts

All kids young and old love to be creative. By finding crafts that are age appropriate not only are you keeping the kids busy but you are also allowing their creative side to come shinning though. Crayola has a wide variety of washable markers that are great for younger kids to use because it avoids the mess while nurturing their creative side. For older kids you can give Palamer clay a try. This is clay that you can roll, form and then bake into any shape or item you choose. Many craft stores such as Michael's craft store or Joann's craft and sewing store also have many ready made kits that are age appropriate too.

Reading

Whether you are reading to your child or having your child read to you it is always a great way to spend time together and encourage the love of reading. A trip to the library can make for a great outing even on a rainy day. Many libraries have a wide range of books that are suitable for every age group. You can also choose books that are educational, such as books about the flowers that will soon be growing in the upcoming warm summer sun or what animals are doing at this time of the year. Encouraging your kids to read and learn while having a good time can make a rainy day a fun and educational day.

Movies

My kids no matter how old they get love to snuggle up together on the couch under a warm blanket to watch a good movie. For younger kids you will more than likely be stuck watching a cartoon or children's movie but as your kids grow you will be able to watch movies that might be of more interest for you. A trip to Blockbuster or the local video store to rent a good movie, pick up some warm buttery popcorn and the couch is all you need for a few hours of fun on a rainy day.

While rainy days can be a pain, finding something fun to do together can make any rainy day a great day!

Update on Birthday present

As Isabelle's birthday draws ever nearer we have finally found a wonderful present for her! Not only is it unique, it is handmade just for her!

Here are the pictures of the wonderful blocks that Lynne made for us!

I seem to have misplaced the link to Lynne's sewing blog, but rest assured I will find it and share it with you all!

I have to admit to also buying something for myself from Lynne! Here is the gorgeous bag I bought for the summer!

First Birthday

It is getting closer to Isabelle hitting that one milestone.

It is hard to believe that time goes so quickly! We are still at a loss as to what to buy her for her first birthday.

If any of you have any ideas for a unique idea for a birthday present for her, it would be greatly appreciated!

Quick money saving tip

Here is a quick money saving tip that I actually found by accident!

If any of you have a Brita water filter, you will know how expensive they are to replace every month.

We ran out of filters a few months ago and we continued to use the one we had in. Our water filter has a little meter that you set when you insert a new filter, this meter is set for a month. We had the filter in for two months and it wasn't until after two months that the taste of the water changed.
So now we reset the meter after the first month has ran out and use it for another month.

The Brita filters are around £4 each so after 12 months of buying one per month, you are looking at spending £48. If you use the filters for two months rather than one you will only need to buy 6 water filters, meaning you save £24.

This may not sound a large amount over a year, but I hate to think of big brands getting my hard earned money when the filters last one month longer than they say they do!

SitterCity - The new way to find a babysitter

Just because we are parents doesn’t mean we can’t have a life at the same time. It can be hard to find a babysitter that we trust to leave with our children and a new revolutionary networking site has come up with an idea.

The Sittercity website outs parents with babysitters together and lets them network. It is the perfect way to find someone in your area that has already been checked out! Think of it like eBay without the bidding. You buy someone’s services and you rate them afterwards for when someone else uses them.

What I personally like about the site is that people looking for babysitters want to do just that, they don’t want to sift through needless advertisements and chat to people they don’t know. They want to find a babysitter, book their services and get on with their life.

I won’t be able to use this site as it is only for the US at the moment, but I can see this being a worldwide brand soon enough. You will pay a membership to Sittercity but everyone I have spoken to says it s service they wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else and don’t mind paying for it.

Sittercity also have a referrals program. If you refer your friends and your other family members you get points towards cinema vouchers and other treats. Is this generosity or a clever marketing ploy? You are more likely to use the cinema vouchers and use Sittercity services again so that you and your partner can have a night out! Whatever it is, it works perfectly.
Sittercity is a fabulous idea and a new one at that. Who was it that said if you want to be great you have to be unique...

They have found a niche that needed filling and there will be many that try to emulate the rapid growing success of Sittercity but I doubt anyone will ever come close to the real thing!
If you have used Sittercity or you are going to try it, please get in touch and let us know what it is like!

Sittercity gets the Parenting Know It Alls thumbs up!

Little tips to make you look and feel better!

As parents we don’t always get time to have that manicure or that relaxing massage. We no longer get time to preen ourselves to perfection like we used to do!
Here are a few little and quick things to do when you have that elusive spare five minutes!

1) Luscious and lovely lips – Instead of using matt lipsticks, opt for a shiny gloss instead. The sheen with the gloss makes your lips look much fuller and plumper and makes your eyes sparkle! You don’t have to buy the expensive lip gloss brands either; a little bit of Vaseline on the lips does the same thing!

2) Go for curls – Get an eyelash curler and give those lashes a much needed boost. Lashes that are curled open up tired eyes and they lighten up the face.

3) Be cheeky – To make your cheeks glow with lovely peachiness, give your face a firm fingertip massage every night and every morning. You can also use a face moisturiser with a gorgeous silky texture that is light on the skin to help!

4) Face packs – You don’t have to use the thick mud face packs that take a lifetime to set anymore. Milk does a great job of perking up tired skin. Get a facecloth and pre soak it in a bowl of milk and ice cubes. The protein in the milk reduces the redness and the coldness reduces puffiness!

5) Nails galore – Instead of spending a lot of time and money having a proper manicure, Invest in a good nail buffer instead. Your nails will be much healthier and you won’t even have to use varnish!

To the park we go!

Is there a child anywhere that doesn't love to go to the park? Even us big kids love to get on the swings every now again or down that jumbo slide!

Today I took Isabelle to the park and onto the swings for the first time! It was a beautiful day and it seemed a shame to spend it working! Isabelle loves her nephew Samuel so much we took him with us!

By the way... Excuse the hair, (it was a late night last night!).

Next time you have the chance and a nice day, take your kids to the park. It's a great way to spend some quality time with them and reconnect with your youth!
